Thunder Snow

It’s thundering and snowing here (yes, at the same time), which turns out to be a verry bizarre combination. The snow itself is falling at the rate of of 3-4 inches per hour — a rate the local TV weatherman claims is the absolute upper limit.

In short, it’s breathtaking. Mother nature never fails to impress me.

You can leave London, but London will never leave you….

It’s my last day in London, and despite the fact that I’ve been really excited about moving back to the States the past few weeks, today I’m feeling just as sad to be leaving.

I’ve moved a lot in my life. In fact, I’ve never lived in any one place continuously for more than 4 years, but this place has changed me more than any other place I’ve ever settled. It was a great time and one I’ll never forget.

Most of all, I’m going to miss all the amzing people I met here, the friends I made, and the experiences we shared. I’ll be back, for sure, but I also invite everybody to come and visit wherever I end up settling.

Farewell, England. Hello again, America.

Time Out for Tourism

With only 2.5 weeks left in London, it’s a bit of a relief to have some friends visiting, affording me one last hurrah here.

We’ve had some fun observing a few interesting linguistic differences. Such as these “roasted monkey nuts.”

And this sign for “Bung Hole Cellars.”

Perhaps most appropriate was the cover to this week’s Time Out.

Mange Takk

Saw Sigur Ros last night at the Brixton Academy and it was absolutely magical. I’ve never seen (heard?) the place so quiet before. You could actually hear paper rustling, shoes shuffling, and people breathing in there. It was intense.

We were entertained by a full brass band and string ensemble.

Some glitterballs added sparkle.

And as always, crowd surfing was strictly prohibited.

We’ve just launched our newest service, which carries thousands of nutritional supplements, herbs, weight loss and body building products, all steeply discounted.

Internet Killed the Radio Star

Streaming radio stations seem to have really taken off over the past few years with the proliferation of broadband. Everything from Russian talk shows to German techno can be pulled up at the click of a button.

And some of it is really good. Here are the stations I listen to most often:

  • KCRW – This station is an awesome NPR outfit out of Santa Monica serving up great tunes across many diferent genres. Check out Nic Harcourt’s Sounds Eclectic, which includes lots of artist interviews and studio performances, and Jason Bentley’s Metropolis for the latest in dance music.
  • Radio Paradise – Another eclectic station run by Bill Goldsmith of Paradise, California. They tend to play a lot of indie stuff, but also throw in some truly original gems you probably won’t hear anywhere else. One of the best run pure-internet stations, it runs a sophisticated automation program — I don’t think I’ve ever heard programming repeat itself.
  • Planetsoul – A deep house channel featuring beautiful deep, soulful streaming mixes.
  • SomaFM – Ambient and downtempo grooves from San Francisco.
  • HouseFM – Live DJs playing lots of funky/deep house tunes.

New Funktasia Mix @

Now usually, I’m into the funkier, happy, summery-type house, but believe it or not I don’t mind the occasional dabble into the techy and dirtier side of things.

With that in mind I decided to put together a mix with some of the better tunes in this genre I’ve collected recently.

Check out the mix “Tech & Breaks” here.

Goldfrapp – Twist (Dimitri Tikovoi Remix)
Prodigy – Spitfire (Future Funk Squad’s Dogfight Remix)
Sabrina Setlur – Ich Bin So (Wackside Remix)
Josh Wink – Higher State of Consciousness & Plump DJs – Scram (Zabiela Mash Up)
Daft Punk – Technologic (Vitalic Remix)
Switch – A Bit Patchy
KB – POS 51 (Hawk Dawson & Tom Neville Remix)
Soulwax – E Talking (Nite Mix)
